NAPLAN results for 2022 have been published, revealing the top-performing schools in Australia. The results provide a comprehensive guide to the academic success of various regions and schools across the country. This year, the top-performing schools were dominated by selective schools in major cities like Sydney, with the primary and secondary schools achieving the highest scores.
In New South Wales, Sydney’s selective schools took nine out of the top 10 spots in the secondary school results, with James Ruse Agricultural High School topping the list with an impressive Year 9 average of 730.8. The primary school results were similarly impressive, with the elite private school Sydney Grammar scoring the highest marks among Year 5 students. Woollahra Public School and Beecroft PS also performed well, taking out second and third place respectively. The top 20 primary schools were concentrated mainly in Northern Sydney, the inner city, and Western Sydney, with Gib Gate School in Mittagong being the only non-Sydney school to make it to the top 40. The bottom 20 schools were all in the regions.
In Victoria, the latest NAPLAN data showed that girls’ schools outperformed boys’ schools, with 28 out of the top 100 schools being girls-only schools compared to just 12 boys’ schools. Fintona Girls’ School was the best non-selective secondary girls’ school, while Camberwell Grammar School was the best non-selective secondary boys’ school. Presbyterian Ladies’ College took the top spot in the primary school rankings, followed by Harkaway Hills College and Fintona Girls’ School.
Queensland’s top-performing primary schools were Sunnybank Hills State School, Rainworth State School, and St Aidan’s Anglican Girls School, all of which have consistently performed well over the years. The surprise performers were Ormiston College and Coolum Beach Christian College, both of which made significant improvements to climb into the top six. Brisbane Grammar School, Brisbane Girls’ Grammar School, and Queensland Academy for Science Mathematics, and Technology in Toowong were the top-performing secondary schools in the state, as they regularly are.
